Geir Zahl will release a solo record next year. Now you can hear some teasers of the album on his new myspace site!Go here to go directly to the Zahl page in the world spanning network "internet", listen to the two songs Nice For A Change and Friday Nights and feel free to become a myspace friend while you are there!
- Are those two songs representative for the album?
- Yep, I would say so. There are 11 songs on the album, and a pretty good range of material I think, but those two are pretty representative for the atmosphere, yes. A little melancholic, but in major key. Light in the tunnel and wind in the hair and hand on the wheel atmosphere.
- People are pretty surprised about your solo stuff, both the genre and the sound. Where does this come from, actually, it's pretty far away from the Kaizers world?
- I can understand that people think it's a little strange, and the style is light-years away from Kaizers', but for my part, this album is a natural result of my fascination of outstanding songwriters like Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Tom Petty, Ryan Adams, Bob Dylan, Evan Dando, Will Oldham, The Jayhawks, Sheryl Crow, The Band and so on. This is music for us who like America, to say it the way Bjørneboe would have said it. Anyway, I like it that people are surprised and that they didn't expect that from me.
- What are the plans for the future now?
- The plan is to release the album "Nice For A Change" around the end of February and then go on a short tour with my terrific band around March. I'm really looking forward to show the whole album to the people and try out the material live!
- Who will bring out the album?
- Probably it will be my own company, with help for distribution and promotion.
We can only look forward to the sequel then!
