Janove and Rune sweat for UNICEF!According to the myth, the Greek soldier Phedippides dropped dead after running the 42,195 kilometers to Athens from the battle at Marathon with the good news that "we won!". Hopefully it will end better with Kaizers Orchestra's strong men, Rune and Janove, when they want to spread the good news in the Big Apple this Sunday!
Kaizernews got some words from the two excited running boys at Gardermoen airport this morning.
- We are in good shape! they answer in unison.
- How did this actually come about, what kind of crazy idea is it to voluntarily run a marathon?
- He he, the idea came up last year through our good man Stein Bjelland. Stein has a long history with the Stavanger band "The Getaway People", which has partly been based in New York in the 90s, so he is the main link there. We had just come in contact with UNICEF when we started to talk about the marathon, around this time last year, so we thought we can kill several birds with one stone here. How about turning our sweating tour through Manhattan's streets into a fundraiser for the school project in Rwanda, on which we work together with UNICEF? Said and done, and so we got some sponsors from the Stavanger area and take on the asphalt to support a good cause.
- And you have also trained for this?
- Sure! If you plan to be able to run a full marathon, you have to get in shape. We had some expert advisors on the way, so we show up prepared, even though up to now, none of us has run as far as this at a stretch before. The plan is to run the entire distance, and ideally reach the goal in less than four hours. But it will be exciting to see if the legs will hold!
