The satisfied marathon men celebrated their weary bones with well-deserved B vitamins yesterday! The whole Kaizer/Stavanger delegation succeeded and reached the finish line during the massive exertion of the New York City Marathon yesterday. That is really sporty, and Kaizernews can only say what Aretha said: RESPECT!
Rune was the one who got through the hard work of Manhattan's asphalt fastest. He achieved the 7969. place with the very respectable time of 3:40:44, while Janove clocked in at 4:33:47, which placed him on 26915. The Jackal showed good gentleman style and ran the whole race together with his wife Susanne. The underdog Stein Bjelland clocked in right after Rune, at 3:47:40. All in all a great job, and as another feather in the cap: The blood work gained 250000 NOK for UNICEF, from businesses in Stavanger!
- The day after, good shape and rather stiff legs, our best man Rune Kaizer reports from New York.
- I ran together with Stein up to kilometer 26, but then the competition instinct jumped in and I put in a long sprint up to kilmeter 42. 1.2 million ecstatic spectators and several bands, DJs, and choirs along the course were a big help when the lactic acid announced its arrival. A memorable experience, and a very effective way to get to see all neighborhoods in NYC, I liked it a lot in Brooklyn around kilometer 15, I think I'll go back there today to gather some LPs..
- By the way, the rain stopped in time for the race, Our Lord knew that we were working outdoors, he-he.
All in all, it felt really good to feel the lactic acid for a good cause. The Marathon project brought in around 250 000 NOK for UNICEF, and we are proud of that!
- The picture is from the party after the race, so obviously you had enough power to go out after the race?
- Yes, we did, by that time we got extra powers. The lust for a burger came on strongly around km 30, for my part. I haven't eaten burger for a half year, so the afterparty took place at Braazzmonkey. Everybody went for burgers with bacon and fries. The body cried for calories. And it got them.
The medalists return home on Wednesday. And next week, they will meet the less sporty part of the Kaizers gang to practice some new songs in Stavanger. That will also be exciting...
