Kaizers Orchestra's Rockefeller concert on Sept 11, 2004 marked the end of a three year long and almost continuous tour of the band since the fall of 2001. Altogether, the oil barrel-misusers have done 327 concert at home and abroad during those three years that have gone by since the Ompa Til Du Dør release in the Garage in Bergen on Aug. 31, 2001. Now the group takes a one year break from playing live.- Now we have toured hard for these two records we have given out, and we are satisfied with what we have achieved until now. There's no point in risking to get sick and tired of playing, despite everything, we're no machine for eternity. Now we will have some free time and do other things before we start recording album number three in February of 2005. Then we shall be back 100% again, promises Janove Kaizer.
The Jackal also explains that the band might possibly do some strategic concerts in the course of the next year. A showcase at a music industry meeting similar to by:larm in Rennes in France is already planned for the first weekend in December, and as the guys themselve pointed out in VG a short time ago: "If Tom Waits calls and wants us as support, we will come!" Otherwise there will be no regular tour next year.
- The next thing that's important for us is a good record contract. We have built up a good foundation for Kaizers Orchestra, both at home and outside of Norway. We simply have one unique possibility to take that band one step further now, and this partly because of all that we have done already, but actually mostly because of the song material we have at the moment. What we need is a professional cooperation partner that can guarantee for everything that is needed regarding capital, coordination, logistics, strategy, promotion, market-leaderhsip and everything that has to be put in order to succeed with an international release. Until now, everything was only pure chance for us, and nothing has really fit together regarding our attempts abroad. With these things in order, we can look forward to the release of the third album in September of 2005.
Even though Kaizers Orchestra take some time off from touring, those involved cannot just rest their bones in the fall. Janove will use the time to launch his first solo-album, Francis' Lonely Nights, which comes out September 27.
Guitarist Terje Vinterstø also counts on this year's fall to sell records (something like that... *g*). The uncompromising four men strong punk-rock band Skambankt, singing in Norwegian language, in which Terje, aka Ted Winters, is singer and guitarist, will release their self-titled album October 11.
Both Janove and Skambankt plan on touring in the course of fall. Take a look at www.janove.com and www.skambankt.com for details on that.
Kaizers' second songwriter and guitarist Geir Zahl, who has contributed a song to the Skambankt album, by the way, is also busy with a solo project. Hellraizer's side-project is also clearly different from Kaizers Orchestra, in English language and in a rather singer/songwriter-based direction.
- As far as it goes, I have already enough songs for an album, but I have lots of time, and anyway I will not bring out anything before the new Kaizers album comes out. I'm starting the process now this fall by recording demos and organizing the thing, so we'll get to the rest gradually. (?)
Bass player Storesund himself will use the fall for a small USA tour with Frode Gjerstad Trio, before he starts to record a new Cloroform album in December, together with his partners Kaada and Panda. As planned, this shall be out in March of 2005.
