During the last days and weeks, there was quite a bit of news around Kaizers Orchestra. Which means it's time for a big news update here now!
Den tilfeldige rockestjernen / The accidental rock star
There will be a documentary about Kaizers Orchestra soon: "Den tilfeldige rockestjernen" (The accidental rock start). The film will focus on Helge "Omen" Kaizer - the rock star who never really wanted to become a rock star but ended up in the band by accident. The film will not simply be a "normal" documentary, but a mixture between reality and fiction, with some special "Kaizers world" scenes mixed in. These scenes are supposed to visualize the Kaizers universe.
To achieve this, the film makers need a bigger budget than what they have based on support from several Norwegian film associations. That's why they started a crowdfunding campaign to raise the money to make the movie! Fans can contribute, and as reward their name or even photo will be displayed on the website or in the movie. For more money, fans can take part in the screening before the movie is released and/or attend the movie premiere - or even have a walk-on appearance in the movie! Of course, all that will only work out if enough money is raised - to participate, go to manymade.org.
The movie is scheduled to be ready early in 2014. You can find more information and the names and pictures of the "accidental film producers" who have contributed already on accidentalrockstar.no. And if you don't want to buy a pig in a poke - there's a first trailer for you to watch already!
Tenk som en rockestjerne / Think like a rock star
In case you prefer books to movies, there are news for you as well: Just two weeks ago, the book "Tenk som en rockestjerne" (Think like a rock star) was released in Norway. In this book, Ståle Økland takes a peek behind the curtains of the music business - how do rock bands work, how do rock stars think, and what can we learn from that for the "normal" business? To get some insights, Økland looks behind the scenes of Norwegian bands like Kaizers Orchestra, Honningbarna, and Katzenjammer. Paal Audestad contributes the photos to the book. I haven't seen the book yet, so I cannot judge if it is worth buying from a Kaizers fan's point of view only, but the excerpts I've seen look very interesting. You can get more information on Facebook and in lots of press articles, for example an interview with Stavanger Aftenblad.
Kaizersplass
A while ago there were some discussions about if and how Kaizers Orchestra should be "immortalized" in their home town Bryne. Last week, it was decision time, and now there is a square in Bryne with the name "Kaizersplass"! A pretty cool thing for Kaizers of course, especially since the square is right next to the youth center where they played their first concerts. You can check out a picture of the square here, and Kaizers talk about all this on kaizers.no (only in Norwegian until now, unfortunately).
Tour de Fjords
In the middle of August, the "Tour de Fjords" will take place in south western Norway - a bicycle race in several stages. On August 18, Kaizers Orchestra themselves will join in and cycle one of the stages as a fundraiser for UNICEF! A total of 100 places are reserved for UNICEF and the "Team Kaizers". Some of those were already bought by several sponsors, but the remaining places are available for anyone. So if you pay the starting fee of 1200 NOK, you can cycle through Norway for a day, together with Kaizers Orchestra! All of the starting fees for these places will go to UNICEF, and in addition, Kaizers will auction away their bicycles after the race. There was a lot of media coverage about this tour and fundraiser, for example by NRK and Rogalandsavis. If you want to sign up for the race, you can do so here.
Gulltaggen & Clio
Not only Kaizers Orchestra are receiving lots of awards and praise at the moment, but also their promo companies - they already received awards for the Hjerteknuser campaign for Vol. I, and next up is the Kaizervirus app. A few weeks ago, the Gulltaggen Awards for 2012 were given out, and the promo companies Haaland, Eidsvåg & Strøm, Anorak, and Notch won in no less than three categories for the Kaizervirus campaign. And not enough: They also received the "Grand Prix"! In addition, the campaign has been nominated for the CLIO awards, which is basically the Oscar for advertising. And, very conveniently, the awards ceremony for the CLIO awards takes place in New York City the day before the Kaizers concert - the perfect opportunity for a works outing, I guess. =;-) Crossed fingers!
Concerts, concerts, concerts
All club shows are done now; now it's time for festivals and huge venues! Quite a few festivals have been confirmed already, but there might be a few more dates in Norway - check the tour list for all dates that are known up to now. All dates that have been announced already should be reliable, even if Kaizers haven't confirmed them; tickets are on sale already, so these shows will happen. Only the dates that are marked with a question mark are just rumors up to now (the ONS concert might turn out to be a hoax, for example, since they played there last year).
At the moment, there are no plans for more concerts outside of Norway, and it is very unlikely that any additional festivals abroad will be added to the tour list. That's a pity, because it was planned differently originally ... but Kaizers received so many offers for Norwegian festivals that there weren't any dates left to play in Europe. So I guess we'll have to go to Norway instead ...
And just to point that out again: The announcement of the US tour was an April Fool's joke, and the tour will NOT happen! Kaizers will play only the one concert in New York on May 16 that has been announced a while ago.
