Handyman, improv musician, congregational life, musical writing, sailing, family life, paternity leave and clean slates. Here are Kaizers' plans for the future. On Saturday, September 14, Kaizers will play their final concert at DNB Arena. The band members will live completely different lives when Kaizers go into hibernation. Here are the plans for the future:
Helge Risa, keys:
- What will you do after September 14?
I'll get an ordinary job, but not before 2014. I want to build a house. Carpenter, plumber, and electrician; I want to learn all that. Actually, I am a teacher, but I fall asleep so quickly when I read that I cannot be a teacher anymore. In addition, I want to have time to go on long sailing trips, and I will take some real time off.
- What will you miss when Kaizers are put on ice?
The tour life and all the social things are very nice. I guess I will also miss the attention. It's nice to get praise for what you do. Actually, we have a great life. Either we play or we have free time, and I like both parts a lot. Maybe I am the one who least wants to quit, and I hope and believe that Kaizers will be back in a couple of years.
Øyvind Storesund, bass:
- What will you do after September 14?
I'm probably the one in the band who will get back to how it used to be before. Which means playing with other bands like Wunderkammer, Cloroform, and a few improv things. There hasn't been much time for that the last years.
- What will you miss when Kaizers are put on ice?
Everything is very orderly in Kaizers. As musician, you can relax and concentrate on playing. Now it will be back to driving seven hours through the mountains, carry the equipment, and pegging away. In addition, we are a gang that works well together, even though we are extremely different. I will definitely miss the guys. And of course the audience. It doesn't happen that often that there are 6000 wild, screaming fans raising the roof at improv concerts. It will be different, but I'm looking forward.
Terje Winterstø Røthing, guitar:
- What will you do after September 14?
First and foremost, I'm looking forward to living life based on the family. Right now, everything must be planned according to Kaizers, and I'm expecting a bit more freedom. Skambankt will be prioritized. We will go into the studio in Oslo two days after the last Kaizers concert. Apart from that, I have a clean slate, but a few threads that I will see if I can get more out of.
- What will you miss when Kaizers are put on ice?
We have become a family, and I will miss both the band and the people around. Probably we won't get to see one another that much, and even though I'm ready for a break, I will surely miss the solidarity.
Rune Solheim, drums:
- What will you do after September 14?
First of all, I will really get to know my three kids. I'll be a family man, make up for a few lost paternity leaves, and I'll take some time off. We are also part of a congregation in which I want to get involved more. The music will be a surplus thing, not anything I MUST do. I produced quite a bit for Kaizers. I can imagine a job in that area after some good time off.
- What will you miss when Kaizers are put on ice?
The life on the road together with the friends in the band. It's a funny, honest, and good gang that has been together so extremely much for 13-14 years. It will be nice to do something different, but at the same time there's a lot about Kaizers that I will miss. Concerts, recordings, fans, and the works.
Geir Zahl, guitar and vocals:
- What will you do after September 14?
Walk the earth and avoid by all means to end up in an ordinary job. I'll take time off and travel, without being on tour. Later on I will probably keep on making music in an extended sense. Janove and I have just started to learn to write dramaturgy, for example. There will probably be a bit of musical writing in addition to making music in other contexts.
- What will you miss when Kaizers are put on ice?
We have had many moments of magic with Kaizers. When new ideas come up, new plans, creative moments in the studio, fantastic live gigs. We six have a completely special chemistry that I will definitely miss.
Janove Ottesen, vocals:
- What will you do after September 14?
I will turn the Violeta records into a musical. This will take up most of the time. If it takes ten years, it will take ten years. The family will get priority - of course. I will probably work with music in many different contexts.
- What will you miss when Kaizers are put on ice?
I will miss a gang of friends that went to war together. We will probably meet, but not live together Wednesday to Sunday. I loved the planning, working with ideas, the tour life, and everything. The adrenalin kick when you stand in front of a hoard of fans is also very special. I've only experienced the same feeling when I tried out boxing. Maybe I'll have to start boxing.
